Students Learn Exam Stress Strategies From DRCS
15th March 2023
Derwent Rural Counselling Service (DRCS) showcased its services to 200 students at Chesterfield College. The Derbyshire charity attended a student support event at the college which is a leading provider of further education, higher education, apprenticeships and professional training for young people from throughout the county.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapist Dan Palmer gave a talk on exam stress while DRCS offered advice on how students can access its accredited talking therapies and well-being programmes for help. Dan Palmer said: “Exam stress can be one of the biggest pressures on students as well as adapting to a new environment, meeting new people, keeping on top of work, making ends meet with limited money and getting through college without dropping out.
“With growing pressure to finish with the best possible results, it’s unsurprising to find more students are looking to mental health services for help.”
DRCS’s Amanda Wilshaw added: “DRCS was the only organisation to offer a talk which was extremely useful for many of the students attending on how to deal with exam stress. DRCS can come and talk to your business or organisation about access to mental health strategies and training.” DRCS offers counselling services, including talking therapies and well-being programmes in Derbyshire and the Peak District, to help individuals with common mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, stress and long term conditions, through face to face, online and phone appointments. It also offers programmes and courses to businesses and organisations.
Janette Smeeton, chief executive of DRCS said: “There are many ways we can help workplaces support employee wellness from training to offering easily accessible information about DRCS services. A more open culture about mental health at work is important to employees, and focusing on it is also really important for your bottom line. To find out how DRCS can help you offer advice about coping with mental health issues at your business, school or college call 0800 047 6861."
