Mind Your Head Week In February 2025
13

The Farm Safety Foundation (Yellow Wellies) marks this week (10th-14th February) with its 8th Mind Your Head campaign drawing attention to farmers’ mental health and well-being. From outbreaks of disease to unpredictable markets, from changes in inheritance tax to the good old British weather, farmers and their families can find themselves under intolerable pressure, sometimes very suddenly.
Derwent Rural Counselling Service was set up 36 years ago in response to the need for counselling among the farming community. Since those early days we have helped thousands of people in rural communities. From that base we have broadened our services, but we have never lost sight of the needs of farmers and agricultural workers for mental health support.
We understand how sometimes overwhelming feelings of isolation and despair or grief can mean it’s difficult to reach out for help. At DRCS, we believe in our farmers. We know that without lives committed to farming there would be no food, and no management of the land. We know it is a way of life, not simply a job.
If it would help to talk, there is a warm welcome at DRCS and a quick response time to requests for therapy, plus help to find the right kind of therapy for you. Browse our website at https://drcs.org.uk/ for information about our therapy services, it is just a click away.
