Martin Hill, Facilities Manager at Peak District National Park Authority, Janette Smeeton, CEO at Derwent Rural Counselling Service, New DRCS Bakewell office.
Derbyshire charity Derwent Rural Counselling Service (DRCS) has relocated to a new base in Bakewell. The service has been a registered charity since 1989 and first started providing counselling for agricultural workers in Derbyshire suffering from mental health issues, brought on by the massive financial losses they faced during the foot and mouth disease crisis.
After 22 years being based at Newholme Hospital it has now moved to the Peak District National Park Authority offices just across the road at Aldern House. DRCS’ highly qualified and experienced therapists and counsellors will continue to offer psychological therapies for people who need help with their mental health via online and face to face services on weekdays from 9am until 5pm.
Janette Smeeton, CEO at DRCS said: "Bakewell was where it all started for DRCS 35 years ago, so we were keen to maintain a presence in the town, when we had to relocate from Newholme Hospital due to the new development there.
"Offering this location has always been key to us, especially as people can feel isolated and remote in more rural communities, and we will continue to provide resources, care and treatment for people who have experienced mental health challenges."
DRCS now operates throughout Derbyshire from six bases in Chesterfield, Derby, Long Eaton, Belper, Alfreton and Bakewell, helping thousands of people every year. It is partnered with Derbyshire Healthcare Foundation Trust and operates as a service provider within Talking Mental Health Derbyshire offering talking therapies such as counselling, CBT and guided self-help.
It is one of the largest third sector providers of counselling services in the region with people accessing its services via their GP, healthcare practitioner, or a self-introduction for common mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety and stress.
