A Personal Approach To Mental Healthcare
Welcome to Derwent Rural Counselling Service.
We have been a registered charity since 1989 when we first started providing counselling for agricultural workers in Derbyshire suffering from mental health issues, brought on by the massive financial losses they faced during the foot and mouth disease crisis.
We now operate throughout Derbyshire from our six bases in Chesterfield, Derby, Long Eaton, Belper, Alfreton and Bakewell, helping thousands of people every year with excellent recovery rates.
We are partnered with Derbyshire Healthcare Foundation Trust and operate as a service provider within Talking Mental Health Derbyshire, offering funded psychological therapies for people who have asked for help with their mental health. DRCS also offers access to their own low cost (a donation based) service.
DRCS has a team of highly qualified and experienced therapists ready to help, offering a range of pathways (online and face to face) to engage with each client and help them plan a personalised journey to wellness and well-being.
We can help you decide on the right choice of therapy or offer advice if you are worried about a friend, colleague or loved one. You do not have to cope alone.
What We Do
DRCS removes the stigma attached to talking about mental health.
We break down the barriers for those seeking treatment and offer guidance, support and a friendly face.
Our therapists never criticise, pass judgement, or provide unrealistic advice: sometimes all that is needed is a friendly face and someone who’ll listen.
We provide easy access to confidential, professional help across Derbyshire via a range of nationally accredited psychological therapies for adults and children including:
- Counselling – a safe, supportive and non-judgemental place to talk about what is bothering you
- CBT – Cognitive-Behavourial Therapy – managing problems by changing the way you think and behave
- IPT – Interpersonal Psychotherapy – time-limited, focused and evidence-based psychotherapy for mood disorders to improve interpersonal relationships and social functioning
- DIT – Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy – time-limited, structured psychotherapy understanding the connection between presenting symptoms and relationships back to childhood
- EMDR – Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing - psychotherapy to help recovery from PTSD and C-PTSD and associated problems such as flashbacks and upsetting thoughts or images
- Couples counselling – identifying problems generated through relationship issues
All therapies are delivered by our team of highly qualified, accredited therapists helping you to use new strategies to build positive, life skills.
We are also able to guide and signpost you to those organisations who may be better suited in meeting your needs. In addition, we offer practical, educational workshops within schools and businesses which help provide the skills required to build happy and healthy communities.
