Shining A Light On Workplace Wellbeing With Stress Awareness Day 2025

Today marks National Stress Awareness Day, the highlight of International Stress Awareness Week (3–7 November 2025). The annual campaign, organised by the International Stress Management Association (ISMAUK), encourages individuals and organisations worldwide to recognise, understand, and manage stress more effectively particularly in the workplace.

This year’s theme, “Optimising Employee Wellbeing through Strategic Stress Management,” calls attention to the importance of building supportive, resilient work environments where wellbeing is prioritised as a key component of business success. From psychological safety to recognition and organisational culture, the campaign explores how proactive strategies can reduce stress and improve performance across all sectors. Stress Awareness Day is observed annually on the first Wednesday in November. It forms part of International Stress Awareness Week and is intended to raise public awareness about stress, its causes, effects, and strategies for managing it.

2025 Focus & Activities

  • In 2025, Stress Awareness Day falls on Wednesday, 5 November, the midpoint of the awareness week.
  • The theme for International Stress Awareness Week 2025 is “Optimising Employee Wellbeing through Strategic Stress Management”, emphasising how organisational culture, recognition, psychological safety, and support systems can reduce stress at work.
  • One major event is the Global Online Stress & Well-Being Summit, taking place on Stress Awareness Day.

Why It Matters

Stress, especially chronic stress, can have serious mental and physical health implications, from cardiovascular strain to impaired immunity and mental health challenges. Stress Awareness Day encourages:

  • Recognition of stress triggers in work and daily life.
  • Open conversations to reduce stigma around mental health.
  • Adoption of practical coping and resilience strategies, both individually and organisation wide.
  • Support frameworks in workplaces, policies, training, and culture shifts to prioritise wellbeing.
